This weekend, as we set the clocks back, it is time to think ahead about our winter coats and what will look good while keeping us toasty. Before you pull out the standard black or tweed wool coat AGAIN, let's see what other alternatives there are.
Winter 2011 coats are all about bold shades, dramatic prints and embellishments. These are not your mother's winter coats, girls! Interesting cuffs, creative stitching and metallic buttons are all in the mix this winter.
As for color, don't be shy about wearing a bright yellow, fuchsia or red wool this winter. If you choose one of these bold striking shades, you'll want the other elements of the coat to be a bit subdued in order for the focus to be on the color and line of the coat. Just like with everything else, moderation is the key.
Try wearing a coat with checks or other prints with a pair of jeans and boots. A nice scarf in a solid color is a great way to accent the patterned and printed coats.
If you really want to be a stand out on a bleak winter's day, try an embellished coat option. Look for a coat with ruffles, bell sleeves or a belted waist. A wool coat with a big bow in the back is not out of the question this year! Sounds fun, right?
Take a look in your department and specialty stores and see what catches your eye. The weather forecast may be dark and cold, but your fashion forecast is all about fun!
